Please join our coalition to defend the Grey Wolf.
DEADLINE 2nd March 2025
The Bern Convention (Council of Europe’s Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats) has taken a decision to delist Canis lupus (Grey Wolf) which puts the species under threat in Europe. A coalition of concerned experts, scientists, organisations, artists, public figures and committed citizens have joined forces to raise awareness about why this decision needs further scrutiny.
On December 3, 2024, the Standing Committee of the Bern Convention voted in favour of changing the status of this wolf from “strictly protected” to “protected”. This decision to lower legal protection, is likely to increase culling and illegal killing. However, it is not yet final: the vote will not come into force until March 6, 2025. That’s why we need you to act by 2 March 2025.
Please join the coalition including nearly 700 scientists, who collectively denounce a purely political decision that contradicts the scientific data despite the urgency of preserving biodiversity. We are launching this public campaign, to raise awareness and encourage you to protest against this decision by taking action as explained here.
Together, we all want to call on these governments (50 countries) representing the Standing Committee of the Bern Convention to take their responsibilities and oppose this downlisting. The health of our ecosystems, our wild animal species and respect for international environmental commitments are at stake.
THANK YOU. Join the European Action Wolves campaign and make your voice heard! Every action counts!
